Pop Life at the Tate

Today I went to see the Pop Life exhibition at Tate Modern for the second time, since I enjoyed it the first time so much.

Pop Life is about Pop art and the influence it has had on the last 60 years of art.
The exhibition opens with Jeff Koon's big silver bunny (which you may have seen in Covent Garden) and this by Murakami which i loved:

They also re-opened Keith Haring's Pop Shop. I liked the music in the Pop Shop, and it was very loud, unlike most galleries, when they have music it tends to be fairly quiet.

I really loved Damien Hurst's Twins, which I had been looking forward to since I saw an ad in the paper asking for twin volunteers. It was really fun to see the different twins on different days. I also liked they way they weren't just dressed the same, they would be reading the same book.

However my overall favorite part was the last room. It was work that Takashi Murakami had done. Murakami uses a factory-like production system similar to Andy Warhol's. He also does alot of collaborations including one with Louis Vuiton. At the exhibition there was this collaboration with Kanye West.

There were everyday items covered in Swarovski crystals which I also really liked.

My favourite part though was a video collabouration between Takashi Murakami, director and producer McG and Kirsten Dunst.

The video featured Kirsten singing The Vapours 'Turning Japanese' dressed up as a Majokko which is a magical princess. I actually saw photos of Kirsten dressed up over the summer but everything just said it was a secret project, so it was good to find that out. I really love the song and the video. But most of all I loved Kirsten's outfit. It was very decora style (a Japanese street trend)

I really recommend this exhibition to anyone, I'm definitely going back for a third visit. And if anyone likes Kirsten Dunst's singing, check out Coconut Records as she does a couple of songs on the album Nighttiming.
