An exhibition where you can get up close and personal with a designers work is a great one. To be able to touch and feel the garments of a brand new collection and really examine every aspect of their make up is a privilege normally reserved for only the most prestigious persons high up in the fashion industry, as they scrutinise and pass the first judgement on the designer's offering for the next season.
Sophie Hulme's presentation in conjunction with bStore at The Elms Lesters Painting Rooms saw her Autumn/Winter '10 collection suspended from the ceiling for the audience to walk through. The simplistic white gallery design making the perfect space to display her latest collection.
The signature use of sequins has this season been replaced with adornments of a different kind, with perspex discs and brass plating details giving garments an industrial edge. Jewellery with chunky chains hung alongside armoured duffel coats and dresses with oversized bow details somehow maintaining femininity in the collection without it being girly.
Included are some photographs of my favourite pieces in the collection. I particularly enjoyed the use of whistles as the signature charm for this collection. Previous collection charms have included a small soldier, a chip fork and a key.
