After my short walk from Somerset House to the Welsh Designers Collective show at Victoria House I found myself excited anticipating the offerings of these new designers who have emerged from the same place where I, myself began my design career.
On entering the presentation space I was lead to a nice comfy seat and already lured in by my goody bag, had a positive feeling about the show.
The three exhibiting designers were selected to represent the skill and fashion talent emerging from Wales, and that's exactly what they did.
Josie Beckett who has already built up her brand, stocked by the likes of fashion favourites Topshop and ASOS, offered up puffball sleeves together with fitted skirts in grey and blue with the occasional stripe thrown in for good measure. I particularly enjoyed her oversized feminine rucksacks which worked as a continuation of the garments to complete each look.
Elinor Franklin, a graduate from West Wales School of The Arts and winner of Welsh Designer of The Year showed an elegant collection in silks, leathers and natural fabrics. Flashes of gold amongst purples suggested an element of luxury.
Emma Griffiths, who has worked for Alexander McQueen and Boudicca, successfully created classic/contemporary designs. Black was a key colour, timeless of course but executed slickly and with grey and salmon colours too this made for a very wearable collection. I think I would go as far as to say that this one was a favourite of mine.
