Lets go running! Lets go!
Okay so after the Christmas festivities and copious amounts of over indulgence on rich party foods and fine wines, the time comes to make that annual resolution to eat more healthily and get fit. I don't know about the rest of you but I can come up with several reasons (excuses really) to put off this blessed event.
Just the thought of running around in broad daylight in full view of everyone wearing some ugly tracksuit and hideous trainers repulses me, let alone the idea of breaking out into a sweat and the boredom of running around and around in circles persuading myself that I am having fun.
Of course there are measures in place to beat these nasty negative factors. The iPod is a brilliant companion if you can't find any friends to run with you, or perhaps if you can and just can't keep up with them, but with by collaborating with sportswear giant Nike the exercise experience has been made a whole lot more interesting.
The two companies combine sportswear and technology successfully in the form of the Nike + iPod Sport Kit.
Nike and iPod Sports Kit.
I must admit my knowledge of this little piece of equipment had, until recently, consisted of seeing it on the shelf in the Apple store, my eyes giving it a brief glance before leering onwards towards the cute iPod cases and sleek MacBook accessories. It wasn't until I finally gave in and bought myself a new pair of Nike running shoes that I came to fully understand the concept of this clever little thing!
Lift out the insole of the left running shoe to reveal compartment to house the device.
So basically my understanding is that this clever little gizmo fits into your running shoe and syncs with you iPod and any input body statistics you give the programme to provide you with all the information you require about your workout, which can then be uploaded to your computer so that you can record and monitor your progress.
Here is Apple and Nike's official explanation.
Being told how well you are doing by your iPod and computer is surely more of an incentive to get out there and burn some of those calories whilst listening to your favourite running playlist - another feature of the software.
Personally I would never have considered purchasing such a product previously but now it would seem to be the perfect companion for my new running shoes, literally, the missing piece! At just £19 it's a good investment to make those of training miles fly by.
Unfortunately, the product is not compatible with my old brick of an iPod and will only work with the new generation iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. Oh well, guess that will be a new iPod too then? Who knows, splashing the cash might just finally force me to get out there and get going with the exercise?
More information can be found on the Apple or Nike websites.
